Happy New Year everyone. I hope you have all had a restful and happy time with those important to you. We have had a busy but exciting festive period and have lots of news to update you about.
We are delighted to say that khagendra have employed a new physiotherapist, our good friend Amrita Shrestha. Amrita has experience working in Occupational therapy and physiotherapy with both adults and children. We have been overwhelmed by the support shown by Special Education and Rehabilitation Centre (SERC) who have offered Amrita shadowing, support and even a week long training course in treatment of the child with cerebral palsy. This support network will be invaluable in her continued development and we are incredibly grateful for the help Anish and Kalpana have shown us.
At the end of December we were joined for a day by the fantastic 'Aussie Action Group' a proactive clan of 16 volunteers willing to muck in and work hard for the day. We managed among others to refurbish an old disused basketball hoop, decorate the new physiotherapy room, set up a waste disposal area and clear a large garden area. They also completed training sessions for manual handling and gifted reusable female sanitary kits- invaluable in Nepal and greatly appreciated by all recipients.
Last week we had to say goodbye to Tessa and Elise Wallenburg, 2 brilliant Dutch volunteers who have worked very hard at khagendra over the past 2 months. They have worked with the residents to make photo boards, touch books and vegetable planters among others. They will be missed by all!
Thankyou to everyone who has kindly donated towards the basketball court project. We are awaiting for final quotes but are on the way to reaching initial estimates. This court could offer a lifeline to wheelchair users of all abilities, the chance to socialise, learn new skills, be active and adopt a positive mental attitude. Who knows it may be where future paralympic champions start their career. We could be a part of that! Donate through mydonate or the website, thankyou so much to those who already have. We wish you all a very happy new year!
