In recent weeks FCN have provided money for the construction of a ramp at a local school, following a number of accidents as wheelchair users attempted to enter using the steep steps. Improving the accessibility of schools is essential to challenge the disabling barriers faced by those with impairments in Nepal, and will make the school more inclusive for all. Additionally, we were able to provide funds so that modifications could be made to the school bathrooms, including fitting grab rails so that toilet spaces are more accessible. FCN believes it is essential that all children have opportunities in education and hope to continue to support the work of disabled people in Nepal in reducing any barriers to participation.
Thanks to your support FCN have also been able to purchase four air mattresses for residents at the Khagendra who are unable to relieve their pressure independently. Steps such as the use of mattresses, coupled with a healthy diet can be key in reducing the risk of developing pressure sores, which can often result in infection and serious illness.
It is once again the time of the year to reflect on all that has happened over the previous 12 months and produce an annual report, a process that can be lengthy but also an enjoyable process. I would like to thank everyone who has helped, supported, contributed, and guided the work that the charity has been able to carry out over the past year. A special thank you is extended to Michael McGowan and Krishna Khadka, who have been key in organising, planning and preparing all the projects FCN have been involved with.
